4 stars "Deep Purple" is the first album of DP Mk1 and in my opinion (but not only mine) is the more close to Prog (with "Concerto..." and "Fireball"). But "Deep Purple", in my mind, not sound so better that his predecessors. After all this is the last album of Mk1, the final battle between Blackmore (Blues/ Heavy Rock) and Lord (Classic Music/ Prog Rock). This album not have great songs but "Blind" and the Donovan's cover of "Lalena" was great songs for 1969 (and "Lalena" is a masterpiece also today). For the rest good is "The Painter" (that is a Proto- Punk song!) and "Bird Has Flown". "Emeretta" is only a single and this song is another DP song that I love. For this motive I love the 2000 remastered version.

So, in my opinion, "deep Purple" is a good album but the Lord/ Blackmore's dualism ruin the final result, in my opinion. It is trur that from "Concerto..." and more fron "In Rock" is another story. And that story!!!
