HORIZONT were a Russian band operating during the second half of the eighties, releasing two studio albums. The
debut "Summer In Town" is apparently a symphonic record with some avant leanings, while their final record "Portrait
Of A Boy" is pretty much a 50/50 symphonic/avant affair. A six piece band, they had bought a DX-7 synth and went
bonkers with it on this second album. Creating complex sounds and arrangements mostly on that side long opening
title track. Not an easy listen at times, sterile, plastic and in your face. Yet it serves as a nice contrast on this album to the symphonic stuff that at least has some warmth, and some flute on it. So I'm hearing ELP vibes at times but mostly GENESIS surprisingly during the second half of the record, especially the back to back third and fourth tracks taken from a ballet called "Fahrenheit 451". A lot of avant fans have respect for this record. It's a tough listen for me, with the enjoyment factor being low. I've always had an allergy to certain synth sounds like the ones found on here. Only in Russia can a band just disappear, which they did after this release.
