Dornenreich biography
Dornenreich is an avant-garde black metal hailing from Tyrol, Austria. The band was formed in 1996 and since then has developed a following among the black metal, neofolk and dark ambient communities. Dornenreich are well known for their fusion of melodic and atmospheric black metal with more avant-garde compositions whilst maintaining a challenging conceptual focus. Many of Dornenreich compositions focus around sentimental themes, including life, loss and spirituality. This is echoed by the folky, metallic spirit the band creates through dark and cloudy soundscapes.

After releasing a demo in 1997, Dornenreich released their first full length album Nicht um zu sterben, a melodic black metal album with ambient and neofolk influences. In 1999, the band released their second album Bitter ist's dem Tod zu dienen, which the band themselves described as a more symphonic black metal effort. In 2001 the band released their third album Her von welken Nächten. It was to be the final album with drummer Moritz Neuner, who left the band soon after citing artistic differences. However, the two remaining members forged ahead, and in 2005 the band released their fourth studio album, Hexenwind. Following that, Dornenreich released a fifth album Durch den Traum in 2006, and a sixth stdio album In Luft geritzt in 2008. In 2009 the band released their first live DVD entitled Nachtreisen.
