4 stars awesome riffs galore - that's the story of "The Odyssey" and not the Accolade sequel or the almost 25-min title track.

the riffs are what make the album and also what keep it from being a 5-rater 'coz, at the first run, they sound quite similar. i couldnt distinguish several parts of "Wicked" from "Incantations..." from "The Turning" and in fact from sections of "The Odyssey" for quite a few listens

that doesn't take away the fact that they are awesome riffs...i love the intro of Inferno - amazing energy, totally charges you up for whats to come...Accolade II and Awakenings are the only places where Symphony X slow down on this album and both of those are expectedly beautiful (the band does ballads surprisingly well, for their reputation as metalheads). especially in Awakenings, the pace changes are breathtaking.

and, after all that build up, the title-track closer doesnt let you down - its got everything - melody, crunch, power...its the whole album rolled into one song..

4 bright and shining stars.
