4 stars This was the album that introduced me to this truly great band. Funny thing is, the first time I listened to it, it didn't intrigued me at all. Fortunately my mate insisted that I should give it a more careful listen and it was the best piece of advice I was ever given. Sudden Winter and The Losing Game are up there with the best in my book, be it Camel's Lady Fantasy or Genesis' The Fountain of Salmacis, you name it. But actually no track falls short. The album, like its predecessor, includes a variety of moods like the punk-ish 10,000 Roses and Disintegration whereas the aforementioned Sudden Winter focuses on the lyrical side of the band and drips with emotion and The Losing Game on the prog roots of the band (with some fine touches from the saxophone by Nikos Nikolopoulos from Ciccada). The instrumental Dance of the Dead, although short, manages to bring out a wide range of feelings, there is also Desire with mesmerizing melodies both from the piano and the guitar and finally comes the epic Aeons with the chaotic and dystopic ending. In general, one could say that the music is permeated by a nostalgic and melancholic - sometimes to the point of hopelessness- atmosphere. Just give it some listens and let it reveal to you its strengths, melodies and beauty. But, in any case, if you happen to read these lines, do listen to Sudden Winter and Losing Game, don't let them go unnoticed.
