3 stars MARCO GALLETTI was a keystone in Italy's prog revival of the late 1980s and early 1990s, via his group ARCANSIEL, who were ensconced in the GENESIS-MARILLION school of symphonic cum neo prog. This contrasted with the perhaps more adventurous retro of IL CASTELLO DI ATLANTE, NUOVA ERA or ERIS PLUVIA but certainly earned a musical niche and following. Galletti decision to explore the solo angle appeared to have more to do with stylistic than personality divergence, as he has worked in the realm of the ambient and compact as a solo artist since before the turn of the millenium. It has culminated in "Musical Objects" from this year, after a recording absence of more than a couple of decades.

The arrangements are laid back, dreamy, reverbed and mostly propelled by keyboards and/or programming, with no flesh and blood percussion credited. A true solo work, "Musical Objects" offers a uniform and consistently pleasant alternative to the at time impenetrable works of contemporaries, with a curious mix of Italian and French vocals reflecting Galletti's borderlands hideout somewhere in Italy but close to somewhere in France. About 4-6 of these pieces are superb in their elegant and romantic melodicism, like "As the Silence", "La Lune est Nee", the free flowing "La Primavera", and "Raining" (which oddly and rewardingly reminds me of Australia's GAVIN O'LOGHLEN's solo works). The ones that don't quite measure up sound just as good but fail to match the appeal of the above.

With plenty to enjoy here, I suggest lending out your inner nerd for the morning and approaching these objects with subjectivity for best results.
