2 stars Born in 1987, I was 25 years late to be a part of Beatlemania, and so when it came to The Beatles, I didn't really give them too much attention, and was only really familiar with the hits. But here I am now, it's 2024 and I'm 37 years-old, and it's time to delve into the discography of the most famous band on the planet. Starting off right from the beginning, with their 1963 debut album, 'Please Please Me'.

Admittedly, The Beatles sound is not typically one I would go for. It's old. Y'know what I mean? The production is raw, the writing seems very primitive and basic by today's standards, and overall, this is just way before my time. And while I don't mean any disrespect to the band that basically defined all of modern music, I think you really had to there at the time to appreciate this album the most.

Still, it's not all bad. There are some catchy tunes here, and I can certainly see why the British four-piece were so popular back in the 60's. The songs are very, very easy to get into, none of them taking more than a couple of listens to really grasp. And the vocals and vocal harmonies are really good. I already get a sense that these guys are only going to get better with each album. 'Love Me Do' is an early Beatles classic, as is 'I Saw Her Standing There', and their cover of Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow's 'A Taste of Honey' is fantastic.

Sadly, as good as they are, none of these songs will really warrant repeat listens from me. My musical tastes are firmly in place and will take a lot of tweaking to change, but I'm certainly more than happy enough to follow the Beatles discography and watch them improve with each release.
