5 stars As a big fusion fan with the Mahavishnu Orchestra being my favourite band of all time with RTF & Weather Report. behind. This is my second favourite MO album. Although it lacks the blazing fire & the perfection of the previous albums, especially the first three. This showcases some beautiful music by this four piece band. This album is the most beautifully engineered albums you will ever hear & the best produced out of the MO albums, with an incredible percussion sound. The album start off strong with the incredible All In The Family which is probably the best composition on the album. It has a Carlos Santana Latin feel to it with the dense & intricate percussion from Narada Michael Walden. Miles Out which has one of the greatest guitar solos from John McLaughlin. It's a very avant-garde improvisation between Narada & John with a funky basslinr that goes throughout the song. The vocal tracks are decent, Gita & River Of My Heart are good but In My Life is just beautiful with a great 12 string guitar work from McLaughlin. Planetary Citizen is so damn funky. The Way Of The Pilgrim is epic & awesome & one of my favourite MO songs. Lotus Feet showcases the Indian style that McLaughlin was inspired by with some sublime acoustic guitar playing. The title track Inner Worlds Part 1 & 2 is immense and technically demanding with fast blistering musicianship from the quartet that ends the album. Overall, in the surface this is a damn fine record.
