5 stars Man Child has been my favourite from HH for a while now. It's the beginning of his Funk/Disco period. But this is still a kicking album. Even though it's not the original Headhunters, there are still references on this album except it's a much more expanded lineup with a bunch of guests and with Wah Wah Watson on Guitar. This a hell of a funky album and could very well be the funkiest album of all time. This is different from the Headhunters because of that heavy Jazz improvisation is gone and it is now more groove oriented with riffs like Hang Up Your Hang Ups & the nine minute long Traitor really shows that Hancock is not just a brilliant musician but also an amazing composer with having an almost progressive approach to his compositions and he is able to switch a Jazz song at any moment like that. By having those 4/4 drum beats, it makes the solos even heavier. The real star on here I would say is Louis Johnson who just keeps the pocket with those slick Bass fills and is one of the key musicians on here on what makes this album so well.

This is a fantastic underrated Jazz Funk Fusion masterpiece and should be up there with Thrust & Sextant. It might not be as technical or complex but still really strong with the improvisation and musicianship.
