THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION: OVER-NITE SENSATION

ESSENTIAL Zappa! This is my personal favorite album from him (that I have heard) and one of the first of his I ever purchased. It's not as weird or eccentric as his albums with the Mothers and it's not quite as adventurous or "serious" musically as Hot Rats or The Grand Wazoo but the album has seven accessible fun songs played with AMAZING skill, technicality and complexity. The lyrics on this album from Zappa were probably the best of his entire career and each song is full of surprises musically as well as lyrically. A masterpiece of complex yet accessible jazzy art rock.
