5 stars Review #1!

'Ocean' is a 1977 album by the German progressive rock band Eloy. In my opinion, 'Ocean' is a great album. Still, it is not for everybody: long tracks, ambient interludes, strong accents, and spoken-word intros are just some elements that could annoy or bore the unsuspecting listener. Since this is a concept album, there is an underlying theme: the story of Atlantis, a Greek myth about the rise and fall of a utopian society. This album was written to serve as a cautionary tale to the general public about everything in our lives we might be living wrong. But there is more to this album than just the story. The music is quite phenomenal. The introduction to 'Poseidon's Creation', the first track on the album, has some of Eloy's best lyrics, albeit it takes a while to hear the first singing in the song (it takes about four and a half minutes). The second track, 'Incarnation of Logos's keyboard intro is adhesive as superglue and will most likely get stuck in your head until you listen to the album again, as it did me. On the beginning of the flip-side is 'Decay of Logos', whose percussion is so amazing you want to air-drum. Then is 'Atlantis' Agony At June 5th, 8498, 13 p.m. Gregorian Earthtime', whose name I was hesitant to type. This insane masterpiece is full of loud keyboard slams, ambient sections, and spoken word. It is also the longest track on 'Ocean'. But, all the same, it is a great listen, and a perfect end to 'Ocean', an allegorical concept album with hella good music, a great lesson for everyone to learn, and so much more.
