ZAPPA IN NEW YORK

Following the Frank Zappa live albums' catalog, it is time now to talk about "Zappa in New York", which is one of the most complete live recordings he ever published. With a very fine lineup that didn't include George Duke but had Terry Bozzio, Patrick O'Hearn, Ruth Underwood, and Eddie Jobson (to name a few), Frank Zappa showed another extent of his creativity as a musician and a writer.

The album includes the 9-minute instrumental version of the old-"Uncle Meat" track "Cruisin' for burgers" (only in the CD version), "I'm the slime" from "Over-nite sensation" (Tina Turner is missed in this version), "Big leg Emma" from "Absolutely free", "Sofa" from "One size fits all" and "The torture never stops" from "Zoot allures", further than that, all the songs were first included in this album. Among the "new" songs that "Zappa in New York" includes we can find the tremendous "Black page" (divided into two parts), "The purple lagoon", "Punky's whips", "The Illinois Enema Bandit" and "Titties and beer", a diverse bunch of high-energic songs with the most intense instrumentations and original funny lyrics.
