![]() This album was labeled as a THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION album, THE MOTHERS hadn't launched an album since "200 Motels" two years earlier; let's take a look at the line-up, shall we? Well, Ian UNDERWOOD returned to the band, but there are no original members of THE MOTHERS further than ZAPPA himself, I don't know if it would be fair to consider it a MOTHERS record. Something that is true about this record, is that some of the musicians that played in "Over-Nite Sensation" would remain in the ZAPPA band for a long time: Tom and Bruce FOWLER and Ruth UNDERWOOD (who had already played in other ZAPPA albums as a session musician). "Over-Nite Sensation" is not as jazzy and classical as its predecessors "Waka/Jawaka" and "The Grand Wazoo"; instead of that, this album plays more with funky rhythms, that is mostly because of George DUKE's great keyboard figures and, of course, because of the remarkable participation of TINA TURNER AND THE IKETTES in the backing vocals. Maybe this is not one of the greatest albums Frank ZAPPA ever made but is undeniable a very original and unique one. SONG RATING: Camarillo Brillo, 3 I'm the slime, 5 Dirty love, 4 Fifty-fifty, 4 Zomby Woof, 5 Dinah-Moe Humm, 4 Montana, 4 AVERAGE: 4.14 PERCENTAGE: 82.86 ALBUM RATING: 4 stars
