The first time I listened to CAMEL it was the compilation album "Echoes", and the first song on the first CD is "Never let go", then we get "Freefall" and "Lady Fantasy" from "Mirage" and "Rhayader/Rhayader goes to town" from "The snow goose" and then other songs from the following albums of the band, but no song on that compilation captured my attention more than "Never let go", that's why I thought "Camel" would be my favorite record by the homonymous band but actually is very far for being one of my favorites since the other six songs it contains are barely interesting and fall in the "everything-sounds-the-same" kind of record.

As a debut album, CAMEL made a remarkable album, it is not very common that the first record of a band is their best work, and if you compare this album with some other Progressive Rock gems from 1973 such as PINK FLOYD's "The dark side of the Moon", GENESIS' "Selling Egland by the pound" or KING CRIMSON's "Larks' tongues in aspic" this album looks like a very small dot.

Another great piece of this record is the closing one "Arubaluba", which is a great instrumental piece with a very intense rhythm and very interesting spacey keyboards played by Peter BARDENS. The other songs are good but not very memorable, it is a nice record to play on a Saturday evening while doing the dishes or laundry but not an essential masterpiece.

SONG RATING: Slow yourself down, 4 Mystic Queen, 4 Six ate, 4 Separation, 4 Never let go, 5 Curiosity, 4 Arubaluba, 5

AVERAGE: 4.29

PERCENTAGE: 85.71
