GENESIS' second album is one of those albums that are probably not among the top records of the band but deserve all the respect for being that iconic transition album from the early experimental primal days to the most glorious times of the group (some other examples are PINK FLOYD's "Atom heart mother", GENTLE GIANT's "Acquiring the taste" or JETHRO TULL's "Benefit" just to mention a few examples).

Absolutely different from "From Genesis to Revelation", this album shows a more mature group of musicians getting their way into the Progressive Rock scene of the era without copying to anybody else, just making their own original material and experimenting in their own way. The best records of GENESIS found their roots in "Trespass"; it is undeniable that these primitive songs evolved into the holy trinity of "Nursery Cryme", "Foxtrot" and "Selling England by the pound", everything started here.

Not every single record of a band is a masterpiece, and this is very far from being one, but the masterpieces GENESIS made would have never existed without the basis this album gave them.
