The energy that Yes had in these performances is amazing.

"Yessongs" was the first live album of Yes and it was both recorded and published in 1973 when Alan White had just joined the band after the departure of Bill Bruford; it was originally released as a 3 LP set and later as a 2 CD set because the band played most of the greatest songs in their three greatest albums ("The Yes Album", "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge") and the lengths of the songs wouldn't have fit in just one or two LP's.

If the original versions were great (and they were) in here they took them to the next level. Even when I've always said that Alan White has never totally convinced me as a nice replacement to Bill Bruford and only two of the tracks of the album were played with Bruford in the line-up ("Perpetual change" and "Long distance runaround/The fish") I must recognize Alan White made an excellent performance in this record.

Powerful solos of all bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards (Rick Wakeman's "The six wives of Henry VIII" was a very nice addition to their repertory), the good response of the audience, and the (even more) prolonged performances of their songs made of this album a great document of the amazingly powerful band Yes was in the early '70s.

Absolutely amazing!!
