4 stars The peak of classic Santana period of Latin influenced rock with subtle hard-rock, blues and jazz influence.

Santana matured very early in his discography delivered the first milestone of Latin rock with the sophomore effort.

Excellent melodic soloing, improved vocals are heard on "Black magic woman" with strong dynamic outro, the classy "Oye Como Va" with the trademark Hammond sound/accompaniment and one of the most adored Santana hits - "Samba pa ti".

Instrumentally, compositions are absorbing, adventureous and never the same. Listen to "Singing winds, crying beasts" to hear great digital piano touches and percussions with slightly psychedelic guitar.

For most challenging fans, the jazz/progressive rock inspired "Incident at Neshabur" is provided, epic and even pompeous at times with its piano and complex rhythms. Listen to the live version on the live album "Lotus" to discover more. A great composition!

"Se a cabo" is a typical instrumental intensive workout, especially for the drummer and percussionist, more of them in "El Nicoya". A hint or two of San Francisco psychedelia can be heard in "Mother's daughter".

All tracks on Abraxas stand on their own and have stood the test of time. The masterpiece of Latin rock!

Look for bonus - live tracks that add additional dimension and liveness to the album.
