VISIONS OF THE EMERALD BEYOND

The defining characteristic of a "masterpiece" album, for me, is where every moment, every sound, every note, every interval of silence, is perfect, grabbed from the Heavens and set down in physical form. Such is this work, a stirring, spiritual journey through the Cosmos, and allowing us entry back "On The Way Home To Earth", full of wonder and purpose. The musicianship, of course, is monumental on all sides. I saw this Mahavishnu incarnation in college and was simply blown away, especially by Michael Walden and obviously Mclaughlin, who was my first air-guitar hero...he still is. I have always been grateful to have lived in that 60s-70s musical era...they don't make 'em like that anymore. And don't be fooled by the jazz fusion label --- this album has something for everyone but you'd better love incredible electric guitar work...why wouldn't you?
