4 stars Relics is a compilation of single A and B-sides, unreleased tracks and some already released album tracks as well by British psychadelic/ progressive rock act Pink Floyd. The album was originally released on the 14th of May 1971 and had a cover artwork drawn by drummer Nick Mason. The 1996 CD version has a different cover artwork which depicts a three-dimensional version of the strange machine from the original cover.

Five out of eleven songs come from the albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967), A Saucerful of Secrets (1968) and Soundtrack from the Film More (1969), so the critics could claim that itīs hard to see the value of this compilation, but the five songs that are A and B-sides to singles and Biding My Time which is an unreleased Roger Waters composition are well worth the money IMO. Arnold Layne and See Emily Play are even Syd Barret compositions so if youīre a fan of that era of the band itīs a great addition to the sparse output by that incarnation of the band. Album songs like Remember a Day, The Nile Song and Bike donīt exactly devaluate the compilation either.

I think Relics is an excellent compilation that I wouldnīt live without and it fully deserves a 4 star rating. A very worthwhile purchase if you ask me.
