VARIATIONS ON A DREAM

Another step in the development of the band's sound - even less progressive elements and trying to sound like an alternative pop/rock band with touches of melancholy (Porcupine Tree/Radiohead) and some mellow Smashing Pumpkins vocals thrown in. After the first two dreamy tracks comes a more experimental one - "Vapour trails". There are different parts of the song although it can technically still not be called a prog composition. "Run me through" is the most obvious SP nod here, it wouldn't be out of place on the first album. The bitter pill is once again a song close to Radioheat. More interesting track is the instrumental "Resident Alien" with acoustic piano and guitar. "Sooner or later" is one of the catchies songs on the album and offers also dark instrumentation. "Remember us" has all good traces of Pineapple Thief - gorgeous melody, instrumental sections, loose playing and strong atmosphere.

This album is recommended to all Crossover-Prog fans but the majority of the progheads might be disappointed to miss progressive elements.
