4 stars This album is an impressive slab of prog metal. Like most people my favourite SX album is "Divine Wings of Tragedy" but this is up there as one of my favourite albums.

I suppose i should mention the title track, "The Odyssey" is one of the greatest opus' i've ever heard in my life, i was blown away. Everything about this song is perfect. From the orchesteral arrangements to the searing guitar melodies and everything in between, this is the greatest work of a true genius (MR). My favourite part is Champion of Ithaca for the sheer cheesiness- "Triumphant, Champion of Ithaca" gotta love it.

Other highlights include Accolade II, Inferno and king of terrors.

I am of the opinion that there are no weak tracks on this album.

Michael Romeo's guitar playing is at it's best, Russell Allen's vocals are at their best, Michael Pinella's keys are at their best etc.

While it may not be as good as V, The Divine Wings of Tragedy or Twilight in Olympus it can't be discounted.

the capitalising point for me is this album is substantially better than 6 degrees..The first time Symphony X have managed to beat Dream Theater.
