4 stars Contrary to their name Kalter they are not from Germany , they are from Canada and the name mean colder. Beggining their career as Childern of Bodom tribute band , they soon gained a solid reputation as live act and releasing so far two albums, one in 2010 and second Ubuntu in 2012. To tell the truth Ubuntu is one of the best progressive melodic death metal albums I've heared in years, kick ass from start to finish. More mature and aswell more progressive then the debut Spiritual angel, Ubuntu is the real deal , they gained rave reviews world wide and for good reason. The arrangements are truly progressive, toying on every piece with prog metal elements, only the harsh vocal lines put them in a more extreme zone. Lenghty pieces , elaborated passages, the guitar work is impressive for sure, the druming aswell, the keybords are very well integrated in the overall sound, what else a winner album to my ears. The album is well balanced, from more atmospheric parts to more heavier ones, the band really knew to bring something special in this field, I mean pieces like opening Intuitions clocking around 9 min or the instrumental Reflexions really kick ass, and sets them apart from thousands of bands emerged in last years in this field. origianl, inventive, technical but with melodic aproach, Ubuntu is for me a truly great release and one of the best in this genre I've heared in last years. So, anyone who don't know Ubuntu I recommended , from excellent art work and overall package to the last note of the album. For sure Kalter is a band to watch in the future, if the next releases will sound like this one, then their path to recognition is just a step away. 4-4.5 stars, love it.
