Progressive Biography
Me: born the same year as The Yes Album, received initiation into progressive rock probably from the womb (due to older siblings with varied musical tastes). My mother likes to tell the story of how I was frightened by a Pink Floyd album while just a toddler.
I'm pretty much the same now as when I was as a kid: nerdy and musical. I'm an avid reader with a taste for fantasy, science fiction and horror but also the writers of the Beat and Psychedelic generation. I learned to play a few instruments- I'm very much in love with guitars and analog synthesizers.
The progressive rock and metal that I adored as a kid and teen fell into the background for a while during the later 80s and much of the 90s...I explored other musical directions, mainly in the areas of what is now called 'alternative', 'electronica', and 'world music'. I typically prefer exotic and unusual sounds, but I also love basic old-fashioned rock and roll, classic Motown, and the Blues. You'll probably hate all the bands I like best...and vice versa :)
I came back to prog (and to a lesser extent, metal) in the last decade with a wider view and a deeper appreciation. After college, I moved across the US and settled in the Mojave Desert (Las Vegas, to be exact), where I live with my wonderful wife, two cats, and two English Bulldogs. Maybe someday I'll grow up and get a real job, but for now I'm trying to be a writer...
