Father Figure hail from New York City and came to life in early 2010 with a core of four musicians, guitarists Mike Osso and Eric Horowitz, drummer Steve Osso and bassist Gerard DeCarlo, while Horowitz handles also a Wurlitzer piano.Two years later they managed to record their debut with the paradox title ''Congratulations on your loss'', recorded at Woodside Studios.It was free downloadable from the bandcamp platform, but it was also sold in a digipack CD format.

As a young group from the land of contemporary sounds, Father Figure fairly explored the territories of ice-cold and technical Post Rock with all its dissonances, atmospheric soundscapes and heavy breaks.But you might ask what a Wurlitzer piano is doing among the complex rhythms and mascular twists of a Post Rock act.You guessed it right, the guys show some love for Jazz and Fusion and the combination with their heavier outputs makes up for a good amalgam between atmosphere and serious musical complexity.The Wurlitzer does not surface quite often throughout the album, but its presence is pretty representative of what these guys were up to.They are first and foremost a progressive band, then a Post Rock act and their sincere lust for intricate instrumentals with jazzy overtones and KING CRIMSON-influenced weirdness dominates the album.These killer dual guitar moves with the solos over the rhythms, the sudden tempo breaks and the jazzy spices in the bass lines and drumming are leading the album with comfort into the progressive world.The Wurlitzer adds some light aura when used and I wish they could have thrown it in a liitle bit more just to sweeten an otherwise cold atmosphere a bit, so typical for contemporary groups of the Heavy/Pst Rock variety.Instead these softer values will surface without the piano, in some lounge atmospheres provided by the band via smooth soloing and careful jazzy guitar tunes.Great technical background overall and add some discreet sax here and there, played by guest Andy Jovanovic.

Post/Prog Rock, pretty complex at moments with some sporadic RUSH-like heavier overtones and tireless, inventive jazzy pyrotechnics.Warmly recommended.
