Captain of the Swedish Team biography
CAPTAIN OF THE SWEDISH TEAM is a one-man heavy prog led by multi-instrumentalist Aaron CORBETT based in Toronto, Canada. The 'band' was founded 2010 with the immediate release of their debut album, Post-(Bedroom Sorrow Rock) that same year. CORBETT returned in 2012 for the band's second album, Brand New Skinny Ghost, Meet Your Brand New Angel Monster. The band is signed to its own record label, Desert Island Five Records.

CAPTAIN has a very math-rock based sound with a distinct edge for experimental heavy prog. The band's sound could be described as a fusion of THE MARS VOLTA's riffs and HELLA's rhythms.

3 stars Somewhat of a strange and playful (some would call it amateurish but I enjoy it) math-rock band that has some indie pop influences. Nonetheless, this is fairly technical math-rock with some interesting sound bites thrown in and it ranges from lovely to strange very seamlessly in its thirty minutes. This is kind of what proto-Battles Battles would sound like, if that makes any sense, playful and technical but with just a hint of "this is my first time doing this" involved.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very interesting piece of work and it's free on bandcamp, so what could go wrong? It's a fun listen and while it's not one of those math-rock albums that makes you bow down in awe, it is one you'll come back to because it is very enjoyable.

I feel comfortable giving this three pretty solid stars. It's a good record to hear whether it blows your socks off or not. Some of my favorite albums are like this.

Thanks to andy webb for the artist addition.
