In Morpheus' Arms biography
IN MORPHEUS' ARMS was conceived in 2002 but it took the band 7 years to release their full-length album Distrust the Mantra in 2009. A long time span, but one well-spent on perfecting a personal style consisting mainly of influences from modern and inventive Progressive Metal (PAIN OF SALVATION and OPETH). The clean melancholic female vocals from Mira KOHLI are one of the main attractions, staying clear of the operatic and gothic clichés of female-fronted metal. The closest resemblance would be Anke Van GIERSBERGEN's non-operatic style as on How to Measure A Planet and If Then Else.

The band hails from Duisburg, Germany and next to Mira KOHLI, they consist of Sascha GUTKOWSKI (guitars), Peter ROSINSKI (drums), Natalie DROGE (bass), and Karsten MROSZCZOK (keyboards).

5 stars Think of this band as a better, proggier, underground Epica. In Morpheus' Arms features the wonderful singing and stage presence of Mira Kohli, backed by killer instrumentation on the prog side of metal. Our opener, "Lal", is one of the best tracks, immediately introducing the band's breathtaking style. Kohli just sings beautifully and emotionally. Gutkowski's guitar is the real driver of the music, with excellent soloing ability, and Mroszczok's keys are the secret weapon. The other particularly great tracks are "Radiant" and our closer "Drops", both ten minute long masterpieces. In general, as well, the album as a whole is just wonderfully played. It comes out epic and beautiful, an excellent listen. Highly recommended.
