Cobweb Strange biography
COBWEB STRANGE is a promising new band from Atlanta that plays alternately fiery and haunting psychedelic rock, suggesting a head-on collision between the DOORS and IRON MAIDEN... Summerlin's bass and Burke's guitar are tightly arranged, lending a semi-symphonic foundation to the dark forebodings of Summerlin's lyrical fare... An effective piece of neo-psychedelia from a young group that should go far.

The music of COBWEB STRANGE is difficult to be categorized, due to its wide range of influences, that goes from bands like PORCUPINE TREE and PINK FLOYD to others like THE POLICE and THE DOORS. Its an interesting blend of psychedelic, dark, jazzy rock. "Sounds From the Gathering" is definitely a great album, with songs ranging over different styles, and very innovative arrangements, mainly on the guitar.

4 stars This is a very good disc with production that is great on some tracks and not as good on others. About half of the disc is amazing with the top song being the prog masterpiece, "Sometimes the Shine Just Fades Away." Some of the songs, although still pretty good, just aren't as strong. It's an overall dark disc with some real jems, but not as good as their "Breath of October" disc. This is probably their most King Crimson sounding disc.

3 stars This disc includes some very good songs in the vein of Rush although with vocals much closer to Jim Morrison than Geddy Lee. This disc is more rock and less prog than their other discs and the production isn't quite as good as later recordings, but it's a good disc none the less. I wouldn't start with this one as an introduction to the band though just because of the production.

5 stars This disc is a good place to start if you want to visit the band's sound. It offers some of the best stuff from the first three albums to give you a taste of what they're all about. Unfortunately, since there are only three tracks from each album, it doesn't include some of the best tracks off of "A Breath of October." Still, it's a good introduction to the band.

5 stars This disc is the band's best work to date. The production is really top notch, much better than their first two discs. The song "Pure" is a masterpiece and there's not a bad track on the disc. I hate to compare them to Pink Floyd because that just brings to mind a lot of dull discs that I've heard by Marillian clones, but this disc has a kind of Floyd like darkness in spots. The Doors first disc, Gabriel era Genesis and Wetton era King Crimson with also come to mind, but the band really has a sound of their own. If you enjoy dark prog, this disc is worth checking out.
