Stéphane Lemaire biography
Stéphane Lemaire is a French composer, tap-guitar and keyboard player. He has been active in a number of groups and projects over the years, he co-founded the jazz band "Le Proverbe Chinois" and became a member of "Moving Gelatine Plates" in 2004.
In 2007 Lemaire got the chance to issue his first solo album on the French label Dreaming (a sub-label of better known Musea Records). The main influences for the compositions on that particular release were the works of US minimalist composers Phil Glass, Steve Reich and Terry Riley, as well as the musical output from artists like Fripp & Eno and Klaus Schulze. In addition, the Scandinavian jazz scene is an important influence to Lemaire in general.

3 stars The debut album from French musician Stéphane Lemaire is a release that may have the potential to become a cult classic for people into highly experimental, weird and avant garde music.

With influences from US minimalistic composers, electronic music pioneer Klaus Schulze, Fripp & Eno as well as Scandinavian jazz the end result is bound to be on the weird side of the music world - especially as so many elements of his various influences are incorporated here.

Minimalistic soundscapes, with more atmosphere than melodies. Repeated minimalistic layers in tunes with multiple layers of noises, sounds, melodic fragments and layers of percussion. Disharmonic and cacaphonic segments where the various elements are put together with the purpose of not forming a collective melody, but rather create a sonic texture where the melody may appear in bursts; and most often with more than one forming in the same burst. Contrasting songs and segments, where dark underlying synths or bass are contrasted against lighter, higher layers of synths or percussion, with additional layers of various sounds and melody fragments combine to create eerie and often sinister as well as slightly menacing atmospheres.

Anyone thinking the above description sounds interesting better get this album. If you're curious, check out the music first; just in case.

Thanks to Olav Martin Bjørnsen ( Windhawk) for the artist addition.
