Alex Delivery's Star Destroyer is one of those nostalgic albums that can bring back many memories for those who lived the good years in Germany and also good for newer fans of the genre that would like to listen to a modern band's take on the genre. Alex Delivery mixes de jams, the repetition, the noise and the narcotic atmosphere we can assimilate with the German bands from the 70's.
Alex Delivery's music is noisy! Every instrument is hidden beneath layers upon layers of weird abrasive beats, blips and noise making their music sound very dense. Most of their songs follows the same rhythm throughout the whole song or it starts with a simple melody and progresses after that. This may seem simple and maybe even boring to some, but their sound collages makes the experience much more enjoyable. On the surface their music may seem very off-putting by the abrasive noise and sound collages, but in reality the band is very melodic. The songs are quite catchy and they sound very playful and childish (the vibraphone helps alot on this matter) rather than weird or abstract, but it takes time to fully appreciate that aspect of their music because of the noisy atmosphere. The shorter songs are mostly the more melodic (Rainbow even has a mellotron!), but they don't grab ones attention like the longer songs on the album (an exception goes to the last song on the album, "Vesna"). The meat of this album is in the longer songs which are all around the ten minute mark. These songs are more repetitive than the shorter ones, but at the same time are more engaging too. Songs like "Milan" and "Komad" will hook you up to the point that you'll never want them to end.
Fans of Krautrock won't have any problem enjoying the "musique concrete" aspect of their music, but people who aren't normally into Krautrock should stay away from this album until acquainted with the genre. Star Destroyer is a great album that's very addicting and enjoyable. It isn't innovative or mind blowing, but it doesn't need to be for it to be good. Recommended for fans of the genre.
