INDISCIPLINE

When the band's name is INDISCIPLINE you know there has to be a KING CRIMSON flavour to their music. It's just not as obvious as I thought it would be (except for the last song).The music has a heavy, Alternative Rock sound. It is also quite melancholic as the cover art suggests. A non-colour picture of a creepy looking doll on a chair in front of an old barn in the country. This band is from Quebec and the vocals are in English.

"Weakness" opens with violin for 30 seconds and then a heavy sound of drums and guitars come in. The vocals are processed and the extended instrumental break is fantastic ! As is the bass to end the song. "Last Ground" is dominated by these amazingly fat bass lines.This is another heavy song with some great drumming as the guitar grinds away. "D-Wise's World" is the only track with a different vocalist (the piano guy). Piano to open with vocals. It becomes heavy as sax comes into this melancholic tune. "Generator" is a powerful song with more great bass.The drummer is very active as the guitar grinds away. "The Ripper" is my favourite song on this record. It's an instrumental that not surprisingly is quite dark, given the title of this song. A couple of things I need to tell you about this song. First, the bass again dominates. If your into bass playing get this record now ! He is unbelieveable ! The second thing is the violin melodies to end the song. I have never heard a better violin solo in my life ! Amazing song !

"A Concrete Demand(More)" is the longest song and it is very powerful. It speeds up after 6 minutes. Great tune."The Valley" gets better as it plays out. Some more beautiful violin on this one. "Sans Fin (Impro)" opens with violin melodies as the drums and bass follow. The song speeds up as the guitar comes in. Nice. The guitar is great ! "Over Years" has piano throughout and there is also violin, as the song has both sad and uplifting passages. "Deep Dawn" is a good song that is dominated by the vocals except for the ending where we get some cool guitar. "Black And Tans" is my second favourite tune and it's also an instrumental. The is very KING CRIMSON-like with that experimental intro along with the sax and the Fripp-like guitar solos.

If your into heavy guitar driven music that has some killer bass in it, you need to hear this awesome album. 4 solid stars.

Wonderfully dark and intense progressive rock with a tendency for the harder edge. "Vixit" is full of great instrumentation with some wild & frenzied musical moments... delicious. INDISCIPLINE play a highly skilled & challenging music with some great guitar & bass interplay. "Vixit" would certainly not be characterized as symphonic rock. Vocals are quite interesting and are sung in both English and French and fits the music actually quite well.
