Virtual Dream biography
VIRTUAL DREAM was formed in 1994 in Rome (Italy). In the same year the original line-up (Fabio Cerrone on guitars, Francesco Fracassi on drums and Andrea Galluzzi on bass) records a song: "Rapa Nui" which is published in a CD compilation by the monthly magazine "Futura Music" and, thanks to a demo-tape broadcasted on a regular basis by some local radio stations, VIRTUAL DREAM begins to gain attention from the public. In the same year the band starts playing a long series of live gigs - with two important concerts broadcasted national - wide by Video Music - as well as being the opening act for BRAND X during their italian tour.

In 1997 VIRTUAL DREAM records the debut album "Sintesi". All the work allows the band to gain the right attention from specialized music magazines as well as some great musicians like Pierre Moerlen (GONG) and Percy Jones (BRAND X) whose appreciated the style and the technical ability of the band. The album managed to get attention worldwide and the "Fusenet" newsgroup vote sees "Sintesi" among the best 20 fusion albums of the nineties. Along with the debut album, some CD compilations are issued featuring two songs rearranged by VIRTUAL DREAM: "One telephone call/Street scenes" by Miles Davis and "Drive My Car" by the BEATLES.

In 1999 there's the first change in the line-up with the bass player Pierpaolo Ranieri, while the band continues to play extensively supporting the first album. For a brief period of time, Pierpaolo Ferroni works with the band by playing drums while Fabio Cerrone and Pierpaolo Ranieri, having found the right artistic direction, got working together on new songs. After different contacts with some music labels, and the joining of Lucrezio de Seta on drums, VIRTUAL DREAM starts to arrange and record the new material.

During June 2002 the second album "Casuality" - featuring Alessandro Gwis (keyboards and samplers), Alessandro Tomei (sax) and Mario Distaso (percussions) as additional musicians - is released. The sound of the new album is also characterized by the use of Pierpaolo Ranieri bass loops, Fabio's keyboard programming and Lucrezio's virtual drums and percussions on some throughout the various tracks. In the same period, a new CD compilation is issued featuring "Frengo" - a VIRTUAL DREAM previously unrelased track.

The band is actually working on the "Live Promotion" the new album.

Virtual Dream Jazz Rock/Fusion

Review by FrancoR

5 stars I listened to all the three virtual dream's CD and I consider this group one of the most original and creative in the environment of Italian jazz rock. Fabio Cerrone who is undoubtedly the leader of the band,is the guitar player number one in Italy. He's one of the few Italian musicians who reached the perfect balance between huge technique, composition and interpretation. It is out of discussion that along the years the band has become more disciplined and more advanced as far as harmony structure is concerned, but the energy, the power the violence of this album is out of the normal jazz rock standards. That's why I consider this CD a real masterpiece. This album contains all the natural and ancestral elements that the music should always have. The rhythm section is a war machine. Pure adrenaline.

4 stars Virtual Dream

Three side of a coin

8,5/10

New expected job for the Virtual Dream. Three side of to coin confirms the extraordinary abilities of the band and their three faces of the medal: technique, creativeness and power

The new Cd of the Virtual Dream celebrates the ten years of activity from the unbelievable debut Synthesis, voted as one of the best 20 albums fusion of the years '90. But to can ours in a kind is a lot of riduttivo, because their refined person instrumental rock is open to various styles.

The Virtual Dream are the virtuoso and technician Fabio Cerrone to the guitar, the creative Pierpaolo Ranieri to the lower part and the disruptive and powerful Lucrezio de Silk to the battery. Three side of to coin is the album of the by now complete maturity, already reached by the splendid and preceding Casuality. In this disk the care and the search of the sound it improves notably and the project continuous Virtual Dream in the same direction, but improving what has always been realized in precedence.

The Cd opens with the good Novilunio, one of the passages better succeeded that it synthesizes and it contains the quality of the music of the Virtual Dream. Killer attacks since the first note while 33 part slowly for then incedere in rhythm and good solos of the good Cerrone. Attack is a particular passage, part slow with atmospheres soft-lounge with good effects drum 'n bass and a riff of excellent guitar, for then to explode to tall volume. The other one has inspiration blues with many articulated passages and changes of rhythm you frequent, here excellent the test of the rhythmic section. Chameleon is a cover of Herbie Hancock from the mythical album Head Hunters, riarrangiata dearly from De Silk. The didn'ts mean you is another good passage with calls to the progressive psychedelic rock of the years '70. In closing the splendid title-track, ballad where Cerrone shows to know how to also be risked excellently with the acoustic guitar.

In conclusion we can say to already insert this disk in the top 5 of 2007, the fans they won't remain I disappointed. For the new arrivals the occasion impedibile to listen to the good music.

4 stars Excellent stuff for these guys that come from Rome. The city is ,in these years, the center of american-european contact for rock, blues and fusion. The band is really experimental and brilliant, every song is unique and my favourites are Tramite,Aforisma and Pinocchio! Cerrone one of the best guitar in world!

4 stars What can i say about VD? i don't know but i want to recomend this album for any fusion fan that loves this kind of music.Mostly recomended!!Fabio Cerrone, an ex Your Music teacher (An important music school in Rome) and also member of Twin Dragons, he's amazing because he has an highly technic for guitar but at the same time the softness to touching notes close to Allan Holdsworth;Great musician and compositor, the leader of the band. All album is innovative and extremely experimental with Ranieri's bass loop and de Setas'virtual drums.Come on Prog archive let's listen to Virtual Dream!!!
