Mário Lopes biography
Mário Lopes is a drummer, composer and arranger from Évora, Portugal, with upbringing in the philharmonic tradition who completed studies at the Conservatory "Conservatório Regional de Évora - Eborae Mvsica" and University of Évora. Mário developed his work with bands and artists such as Orquestra Jazz de Évora (Évora Jazz Orchestra), Monda, Cantadores do Alentejo, SevenDixie, Manuel Guerra and Luís Pucarinho.
He had the opportunity to work with artists such as Kepa Junkera, Chico César, Rui Veloso, Vitorino, Tim and José Cid. Since 2011, Mário teaches drumming at Musicentro from Colégio Salesiano de Évora.
Parallel to his work as a drummer and percussionist, Mário has worked as a conductor of wind based orchestras and as a composer for theatre and cinema. His 2024 debut album QUIMERA conveys a story about a group of animals which, after suffering at the hands of mankind, come together to form a superhuman entity that will execute a reckoning over the human species.
