Iosonouncane biography
Iosonouncane is the pseudonym of Jacopo Incani, an Italian singer-songwriter, record producer and composer born in Buggerru, Sardinia, in 1983.

Jacopo spent his early years in the nearby town of Iglesias, where he founded the band Adharma, and was a part of it from 2000 to 2008 releasing the EP 'Risvegli' in 2005, but the band split up leaving a second album 'Mano ai tasto' unreleased until 2011, when it was made available as a free download by the Trovarobato label.

Jacopo then moved to Bologna to study at the university, and the Iosonouncane project was born in January 2008, based around the use of a sampler and a loop machine. This pseudonym translates to I am a dog in English, and in December 2008 he published some songs on Myspace which were a 6-track preview of what would eventually become his debut album, and which at the time were given the working title 'Primo Scatola Tematico Gratuito'.

He worked for two years in a call center in between holding of a series of concerts and rallies, as he called them, and in July 2010 he went into the studio to record his debut album entitled 'La macarena su Roma', which was subsequently released on October 10th via the Trovarobato record label.

The album is a mix of music influenced by Italian singer-songwriter/composers such as Lucio Battisti, Giorgio Gaber and Lucio Dalla, played with loops and multiple level samplings reminiscent of the works of Animal Collective and the Italian experimental rock band Mariposa, whilst using acoustic guitar for the melodic part. The lyrics focus on current issues, and the album was much praised by critics, being amongst the finalists for the Tenco Award in the best debut album category of 2011.

In 2011 he collaborated with Elia Billoni (of Dino Fumaretto) for the arrangement of the last track on the album 'Sono invecchiato di colpo', which was released in 2012 by Trovarobato. In 2012 he released the single 'Le sirene di luglio', containing an unreleased song of the same name together with a live version of the song 'Torino pausa pranzo' recorded with Stefano Bollani and Mirko Guerrini during the radio programme Il Dottor Djembč on Radio 3.

In May of 2012 he won the third edition of the Musica da Bere competition for emerging musicians, though nothing further was heard from him until January 2015, when he announced the release of his second album 'Die', due to be released on March 30th of that year. This album also received positive acc...

4 stars Iosonouncane, literally "I am a dog", is the result of a mispelling of his real name, Jacopo Incani. IRA is his third album and marks a drastic change of musical direction. While the first two were mainly incentrated on lyrics, often satiric and vaguely on politics and social stuff, this long double CD is about muical experiments, with lyrics almost uncomprehensible, with a mixture of different languages even inside the same song: Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic are what I've been able to catch.

It's highly experimental, there is electronic but also ethnic acoustic instruments typical of Sardinia, his home land. In some parts it's very dark and the lyrics work mainly as an added instrument giving some rhythm and sometimes adding extra darkness.

The tracks score from 4 to 12 minutes, and as often happens in the prog world, the longer are the best. The track that conquered my attention at the first listen is "Prison", with a 3 minutes dark intro before the lyrics, part in French, part in English, part in Spanish enter the song like a monotone chant, but after a while keyboard chords trasnform it into melodic. The way the chords are adapted to the monotone chant is pure genius, and this is only the first half of the song. In the second half an obsessive sequence of four notes baked by percussion and a sort of screamed vocals repeat the same sentences while the chaos increases. It's a mesmerizing song, and only one of 17 equally intense and genial.

I won't enter in details about the other songs, as this is representative enough of the album. Strongly recommended if you are looking for something really unique and different from anything else.

Thanks to cristi for the artist addition.
