VENUS PRINCIPLE

VENUS PRINCIPLE is the new project of 6 Anglo-Swedish who have dragged their instruments in various other groups and born in 2019; classic rock, dark and atmospheric rock, stoner post-rock, decadent doom rock and musical anthems from which the purity of light drips nauseatingly. The ideal oxymoron transforming this new art-rock, combining melodies and deep therapeutic introspection; dark beauty, ethereal darkness. VENUS PRINCIPLE is somewhere the metallic resurgence of ANATHEMA and one of the sequels of CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, a stoner group steeped in psyche-era PINK FLOYD. A band with members of AT THE GATE and ISON releasing a gem that I wanted to review, so no more waiting.

"Rebel Drones" for the title that sets the mood, which shows the extent of the talent of this promising young component. I am often reproached for dissecting too much and looking for reminiscent groups, but it is a bit the goal I find to help you imagine the sound of the said group; in short it sweeps hard on the prog metal shoegaze post rock and psychedelic rock side, quite simply and there you will not know more. The atmosphere is bewitching. "Barricades" on a dark melody on the edge of playful doom, a roaring bass bringing the receiver to sounds flirting with PARADISE LOST and other ANATHEMA, to RIVERSIDE for this greasy synth; I even find the musical blood distilled by the KLONE and especially this plaintive latent sound played by THE DOORS. "All These Words" yes you understood correctly, this musical vein will bathe, ooze and end up in the maze of microgrooves throughout the album, even if here I feel the typical atmosphere of the 70's for the sound of the guitar , for the choirs, for this dark, jovial and heady refrain. "Days of Summer" delicate intro on the piano and whispered voice, divine choirs, the sirens are not far away as on a MOSTLY AUTUMN with Olivia then a flight worthy of a PINK FLOYD in 'The Trial'; there is in fact an austere and doom symphonic fusion full of sweetness. "The Lord He Giveth and He Taketh Away" and this piano base at the start which refers to ANTIMATTER, ANATHEMA for a monolithic vibrating, bewitching crescendo, Daisy helping us well; the end in decrescendo spleen, moving.

"Shut It Down" with reverberating guitar, phrasing then explosion with a divine chorus, be careful you're going to sink there; it's beautiful, it's a fusion of genres that leads to the musical firmament; halfway through this roar slide solo saturated guitar will send you back to ecstasy because the meeting of PINK FLOYD, ANATHEMA and CRIPPLE BLACK PHOENIX cannot leave anyone indifferent, best title in my opinion. "Kindle the Fire" shows that this album will seek far and wide its moods with a depressive, melancholy jazzy country base; the other side of very dead prog that has metamorphosed like a chrysalis into this new universe that is art rock, a musical composition including genres from the last decades to synthesize only the best. "Drag Nets" returns to a heavier tune, the tempo with bass and drums ahead; Daisy's voice over Anneke's during her frantic performances on THE GATHERING; the rise, the chorus, the contribution of the sax at one point, that of the electro synth then the final sax-voice rise makes the hair vibrate (hair and chest for those who don't have much left), in short the perfect second track . "Sanctuary" sends me back to the best of ANTIMATTER for this dark doom tune on a spleen melody, where synth pads create cloudy musical pads; a bit of MOGWAI, a melancholic melody of great beauty, the perfect oxymoron; the rise is punctuated by this high-pitched solo accompanied by an oppressive chorus. "The Haunting" intro mantra, vintage keyboard, Daisy adds something more, we're more stoner here, a nice getaway that shows the extent of their knowledge and "Stand in Your Light" for the final title, whispered ballad at a slower tempo, just enough to sink into a state of prostration; a moment of serenity.

VENUS PRINCIPLE did not invent a new sound, he created it by successive synthesis of his listening, his research, he succeeded in the feat of releasing a magnificent album combining light and darkness for a subdued clarity , one of those that could be found up there in Paradise; there is beauty, religion, respect and introspection, there is a masterpiece for a staggering fusion. In short, will you engulf yourself in it again and again and you will adhere because when the dark and the light intersect there is always creation.
