Fleesh biography
A Brazilian duo FLEESH were founded as a rock project in 2014 by Gabby VESSONI and Celo OLIVEIRA. They've got started when Celo and Gabby decided to record some material for their first full-length opus "My Real Life", that was released in 2015 independently, whilst they started to record some tribute versions that have been launched on their YouTube Channel. In 2017 their second album "What I Found" was out, filled with more of progressive rock influences via Renaissance, Steve Hackett, Rush or Marillion, and their third "Across The Sea" was released at the end of 2018.

FLEESH have created also some tribute albums like "The Next Hemisphere" to Rush in 2017, "Script For A New Season" to Matillion in 2018, "In The Mist Of Time" to Renaissance in 2020.

3 stars As a huge Marillion fan, I came across this Fleesh collection a few years ago and thought I'd give it a go. It is surprisingly good. Covers have never really been my thing, and in a world where clicking on the original version of a song is as easy as it is to click on these Fleesh cover versions, is there really enough to make this album worthwhile?

The answer is "yes".

Gabby's vocals are a really interesting and different way to listen to these much-loved songs. While the music isn't up to Marillion's standard, her singing is genuinely enjoyable and brings a completely new take on the pieces.

The song selection is great too. There are some genuine surprises on it, such as the appearance of "Woke Up" or "Going Under" as well as more standard favourites we expect to see. One of the best moments has to be moving from "Blind Curve" into a section of "The New Kings" which, rather than jarring, blends these moments of old and new together really nicely. Makes me wish Marillion would play those songs like that, just how in the 1991 era, they went from "Blind Curve" into "Uninvited Guest"... ah, good times! But I digress.

It's impossible for me to say whether this selection of covers is any good from the standpoint of someone who isn't a Marillion fan. Does it stand as an album in its own right? Probably not. It's more than likely that the familiarity with the core work is what makes this so likeable, but likeable it is.

I just wish the cover was a little less awful. Really, it's a terrible and hideous childish Microsoft-paint-esque monster of a cover that should be burned rather than permanently tied to this collection of songs! Mark Wilkinson it is not.

A solid three stars and, for Marillion fans, a great entry into Fleesh's collection of both original and cover songs. Worth investigating.

3 stars Fleesh duo founded in 2014 by Gabby Vessoni and Celo Oliveira, best known for their covers of the groups Renaissance, Rush, Marillion that I had already listened to see, Genesis in 2020 and currently Pink Floyd. 4 original albums and their 11th all combined to relive the most emblematic titles of the Flamingos, here we go.

Titles taken from 'The Dark Side', 'Wish You', 'The Wall', 'Animals', 'Atom', B-side titles, 'The Division' where the sound refers to Karnataka and other Mostley Autumn, ' Obscured', 'More', 'The Final', 'A Momentary', in short everything you need to be able to revise a bit. Note that two monster tracks 'Dogs' and 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' brighten up the album with their length and the quality of the covers; Gabby is indeed the attraction breathing new air with her voice as on 'High Hopes' and Celo is surprised to take up all the instruments in copy / paste sometimes, in pure research and digression other times.

Fleesh didn't just cover Pink Floyd, he shaped it to let our musical mind wander searching for similarities and differences with the original titles, knowing that Gabby's voice made me think of this, of there to that of Anneke, in short a pleasant digression in fact. (3.5)
