Silent Island Post Rock/Math rock

Review by Pietro Otello Romano

3 stars I casually bumped into Silent Island surfing on YouTube and I was enthralled by the sound of the guitar right away. So I went to visit ProgArchives just to check if they were there. I wasn't disappointed, they were there but the number of reviews and ratings was sadly stuck to zero. So I went back to YouTube in order to listen a whole album, wondering if if they really deserve to be there and consequentially why none of the member ever consider them worthy to be rated.

The first impression was confirmed: István Csarnogurszky plays guitar like a magic wand. The sound extremely clear, simple and repetitive creates evocative patterns that drives the listener into a sort of a parallel dimension made by magic and surreal atmosphere well represented by the dreamlike covers of the albums. In the formal terms nothing really innovative, the sound reminds me many Post Rock bands such as Do Make Say Think or even a mellower version of Mogway with a hint of Mike Oldfield's dreaming atmospheres. There aren't some really highlights, the album flows without peaks but overall it's pleasant and soothing. Excellent for reading a books or to sunbath in a quiet beach, but with the power, if you are in a frenzy city, to drive you on your personal sunny beach.

A three and half star, rounded to three from the prog point of view, in the hope that, in the next future, they'll develop more complex and structured composition too.

Thanks to octopus-4 for the artist addition.
