Formed Milan, Italy, 2002. Disbanded October 2024.

DESTRAGE was an Italian progressive metalcore band, formed in Milan in 2002.

The initial five-piece line-up consisted of Paolo COLAVOLPE on vocals, Matteo DI GIOIA on guitar, Marco TAFURI on guitar, Massimo RAINERI on bass and Fabio VIGNATI on drums. At around the same time, Marco TAFURI, Massimo RAINERI and Fabio VIGNATI also become part of the Italian melodic death metal band THROUGH YOUR SILENCE. The young but very active band recorded the 'Code to Emptiness' promo at Alpha Omega Studio in Como, Italy, in the spring of 2005, and began performing a series of shows around Italy.

Later that year Marco TAFURI, Massimo RAINERI and Fabio VIGNATI decided to concentrate on their other band THROUGH YOUR SILRNCE and left the band, with with Federico PAULOVICH joining the band on drums and Gabriel PIGNATA on bass, though it wasn't until the following year that Ralph SALATI joined as second guitarist and the five-piece line-up was restored.

DESTRAGE redefined their style as a result of these changes, and in the spring of 2006 recorded the 'Self Id Generator' promo, which was produced by Ettore RIGOTTI from the Italian death metal band DISARMONIA MUNDI. Following the release of this demo, DESTRAGE signed a deal with the Japanese label Howling Bull Records, and in April 2007 the band recorded their first full-length album 'Urban Being', containing ten brand new tracks. The album was released in Japan with a bonus track in October 2007. However, it wasn't until 2009 that the album saw a Worldwide distribution through the Italian label Coroner Records.

DESTRAGE's second full-length album 'The King Is Fat'n'Old' was released by Coroner Records and Howling Bull in 2010, with the album being supported by European and Japanese tours and a number of prominent International festivals, during which they shared the stage with numerous well-regarded bands such as RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, EVERY TIME I DIE, PARKWAY DRIVE, MOONSPELL, FREAK KITCHEN, AFTER THE BURIAL and many more.

In 2012 they recorded their third album 'Are You Kidding Me? No.', which was the band's most focused and dynamic effort of the three and led to a Worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records the following year followed by the release of the album in March 2014. 'Are You Kidding Me? No.' was recorded at RecLab Studios, Milan, Italy with Larsen PREMOLI, and at Adrenaline Studio, Livorno, Italy with Daniele NELLI. The album...Formed Milan, Italy, 2002. The album was mixed and mastered by Will PUTNEY at The Machine Shop, Hoboken, New Jersey, and the title track features a guest appearance by Ron "Bumblefoot" THAL of GUNS'N'ROSES.

In 2016, having now had the same stable line-up for ten years, the band headed into RecLab Studios again with thirteen new songs for their fourth album 'A Means To No End', an album which was recorded and engineered again by their longtime collaborator Larsen PREMOLI, and his assistant Alex D'ERRICO. At the suggestion of their drummer Federico PAULOVICH, they brought in guest percussionist Alessandro "Pacho" ROSSI to perform on the album, and although it was all digitally recorded, everything you hear on the album was played on an instrument.

A fifth album 'The Chosen One' was released via Metal Blade in May 2019 with Fabio, "Veezo" VISOCCHI and Luca MAI guesting on keyboards and saxophone respectively on several tracks. Bassist Gabriel PIGNATA left the band during the recording of the band's sixth album album ' SO MUCH. too much. ', which was released on Sept 16th 2022 via 3DOT Recordings - a US based record label owned and managed by the members of the band PERIPHERY to which DESTRAGE had signed back in June of that year. Guitarist Matteo DI GIOIA and a couple of guest musicians finished off the bass tracking of the album following Gabriel PIGNATA's departure.

Giuseppe COLLI then joined DESTRAGE as its new bass player in early 2023. However, after six records and over two decades of existence, on 30th November 2023 the band announced that they would be calling it quits in 2024 following a short tour of farewell shows in October celebrating their 2014 album 'Are You Kidding Me? No'. The band's final performance was at the Alactraz club in their hometown of Milan on 20th October 2024.read more

Destrage are a little known 5-piece metal band based in Milan, Italy. While their music was initially considered metalcore, the group's technical proficiency and compositional chops have earned them a reputation as a formidable modern progressive metal outfit.

The music on their latest record, 2019's The Chosen One, is best described as the neglected love child of Protest the Hero and Meshuggah. The music is energetic and frantic but is also anchored by down-tuned and groove-heavy riffs. Being the neglected love child however means the band has also developed apart from its roots, most noticeably by adding a great deal of beauty to the chords employed in the more melodic passages.

Front man Paolo Colavolpe is an absolute maniac. The breakdown at the end of 'Hey Stranger!' is the best breakdown I've heard since the mid 2000's. This is just a fantastic record. I hope it will eventually gain more traction with fans of extreme progressive metal.
