Oglin biography
A Stockholm-based rock project OGLIN were formed in 2011 by lead singer and bassist Ogge SJ�LIN, Seth KAPADIA on guitars, David THURFJELL on keyboards, and Johan THURFJELL on drums and percussion. The band rehearsed sporadically between 2011 and 2014, recorded a few demos, and performed around Stockholm. They were invited to play at Progressive Festivals in Uppsala and Lidk�ping. In 2015 the band started rehearsing material of what was to become their debut album, "Leeches And Lowly Worms" released in December, 2017 finally.

I really like this! You probably know the situation where, logically, you shouldn't like a certain type of music, but you just can't help it. Some bands have that unique ability to play music that you can't resist, even though you think you should be able to. But it's just impossible. Suddenly, you find yourself tapping your foot and humming along to the melody. You're on the bus and realize you really want to play this particular album. You realize that you genuinely like the music.

I'm generally not a big fan of neo-progressive music, as many bands get stuck in a 1984 Marillion mold and exaggerate the genre's attributes. Oglin is everything you think a neo-progressive band should be, truly. The thing about the band is that they play melodic and emotional progressive rock almost to perfection, so you can't help but like it. All the attributes are here: the somewhat nasal vocals, the keyboard lines that Mark Kelly could have played on any Marillion album, and everything you can imagine that is labeled as neo-progressive rock. But what does it matter when it's this good? I completely surrender and just get carried away, turning up the volume when the band plays their irresistible music.

It's of such high quality that I can't help but sit and enjoy it with a silly smile. The first song, "Leeches," starts with a small riff and then a melodic line and vocals. You think you've heard all this before, but as you keep listening, you soon realize that you're falling head over heels for the whole setup. The band has an incredible ability to capture you with their melodic progressive rock, and four minutes into the song, you're smiling as Oglin pours on a keyboard solo that no normal person can resist.

Oglin's music is a fine blend of intricate melodies and powerful emotional expression. They demonstrate an ability to weave complex musical structures with accessible, captivating hooks. The band's sound is rooted in classic progressive rock, but they give it a modern twist that keeps it fresh and engaging. I appreciate their skillful musicianship, particularly the dynamic interplay between the guitar and keyboard solos. The production quality is top-notch, allowing each instrument to shine and contribute to the overall rich listening experience. Oglin's music is not just a nod to the past but a vibrant and present journey that should captivate both long-time prog rock fans and new listeners alike.

This is just so delightful! Let yourself be swept away in the melodic landscape that Oglin offers you. Highly recommended!
