New Horizons biography
NEW HORIZONS was formed in 2010 by guitarist Giacomo Jack FROLL and Nicola GIANNINI. The two had similar taste in progressive rock with bands such as DREAM THEATER, HAKEN, and CIRCUS MAXIMUS. They were looking for a keyboard player and one year later, Luca GUIDI joined the band. They started their live career by playing covers while looking to complete the line-up and find a bass player. The brother of Giacomo, Claudio complete the band as the bass player. They decided it was time to create their own songs without a singer and a drummer. They found drummer Frederico VIVIANI and later singer Oscar NINI. They released their album "Inner Dislocation" in February 2018 showing a music heavily influenced by DREAM THEATER.

3 stars New Horizons is an Italian prog metal band that released its debut album 'Inner Dislocation' in February of 2018 through Revalve Records and the music is fairly reminiscent of some major contemporary acts of the genre like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Haken and Headspace, which are certainly among the influences here. The band's debut album is a promising and expansive release that follows a relatively familiar path of composing prog metal in the 21st century - there is some great attention towards the riff and the build-up of the compositions as well as a fine prevalence of melodic choruses.

The album features both shorter and longer songs as well as a few instrumental sprinkled across but what seems to be the finest moment on here is the delightful interplay between the guitars and the keyboards. This album is also one of the rare cases of LPs having a very strong second part and a more forgettable first half, with tracks like 'Inhuman Wrath' and the two-part suite 'Borderland' leaving a pleasant impression. But what the album lacks in terms of originality, it compensates with technicality and feel; as passionate as the music can get on 'Inner Dislocation', one could not forgive its predictable nature. However, this is a promising first introduction to this band and with some refinement in the songwriting department, they could achieve really fine results.

3 stars A new entry in prog metal realm, italians New Horizons with debut Inner dislocation, released in 2018 at italian label Revalve. Well, what we have here is the type of prog metal I like to listen constantly, nice changes in tempo, musicianship is more then ok most of the time, nice vocal parts, in the end a winner to my ears. The keyboards are well made, strong and catchy atmospheres, lots of diffrent layers, piano all is here supported by competent and technical passages, specially in drums and guitars department. The pieces are well developed, from mellow parts to more technical and complex, New Horizons done a good job here. Oscar Nini the vocalist, has that perfect tone for this music and integrated quite well in the overall bands sound. Pieces like Born in the future, Inhuman wrath or the excellent instrumental Evolution where absolutely every musician really shining at their respective instruments, the duelings between guitars and keyboards show great potential in this field. All in all a strong release that will pleases most of the prog metal fans out there, I like it from start to finish and aswell very nice art work and booklet. 3.5 stars for sure, for fans of Dream Theater, Andromeda, maybe in places Royal Hunt , Kamelot or Seventh Wonder among others.

4 stars It took a long time to see this music release because the band took a while to get completed. The music is firmly in the style of old Dream Theater with solid melodies, complex time signatures, keyboards and piano lines giving some atmospheric push to the bombastic heavy guitars. The album is very consistent from start to finish with songs that has everything a Progressive Metal want to wish for: a balance between good melodies and good musicianship. If you look for something new in the genre, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for something in the lines of your favorites Prog Metal bands, you will find complete satisfaction here.
Thanks to rdtprog for the artist addition.
