PROG REVIEWER
4 stars ONCE AND FUTURE BAND formed in Oakland, California in 2012, releasing this 25 minute "Brain" EP in 2014. We get four tracks bringing to mind STEELY DAN, ANTIQUE SEEKING NUNS, 3RD DEGREE and CARDIACS. Their strength is in the lyrics and vocals here, but their first studio album wouldn't be released for a few years in 2017. And on that record we hear a band who are "lights out" musicians, on top of the intelligent lyrics and great sounding vocals.

I gave their full length self-titled debut 4.5 stars. I was so impressed. But this EP is the first thing I heard from them several years ago and felt it was a solid 4 star EP. I still do despite also feeling that their debut improved upon everything here. I wouldn't replace any of the seven tracks on their debut with one of these four songs. But this is a great companion to the debut, even the cover art has a continuity.

So yes, I'm very happy to own the first two recordings that this band released. You have to hear this band! So entertaining.
