3 stars 6 years in the making. That's how long we had to wait for a new Mopho album. But given that all of their albums took forever to be released... that's just normal. What is kind of a shock is how short the album is. This is basically an EP with just under 27 minutes long.

Brejo (2017) popped up in my Bandcamp wall and I was excited as with every release of the band, i jumped right in to buy it without even hearing a second. Did I regret it? No! I still want to get the CD version, but I have to say that I am not all that impressed.

Brejo (2017) is a mix between the band's second album (Sine Diabolo Nullus Deus) and their third (Volume 3). The production is very good and the playing is highly professional. But I have to say that this album is very 'poppy', so a warning, this is not Prog, this is Psychedelic Pop at best. But then again, Mopho was never a Prog band anyways. And I should say that a few songs are very weak ("Beija me" and "Brejo" comes to mind) and because this is a very short album, every weak songs makes the whole weaker easily .

However, when the band get it right, they are good, I mean, really good ("Deus est' nu", "Tudo acaba no carnaval" & "Limiar", "C'o Sem Dono").

The general feeling is that the album is great but it miss something. I guess this 'something' could be 'hidden' in the songs they didn't record, funny, isn't it? Ten more minutes worth of songs in the record wouldn't hurt anyone.

Anyway, available on Bandcamp: crookedtreerecords.bandcamp.com/album/brejo
