PROG REVIEWER
4 stars Yes, I was attracted to the name. Deep in Thought is another multi-instrumentalist that releases his own music. The album is free on bandcamp, so there is little excuse to avoid it. Our wonderful site calls this experimental/post metal, but I'm not really seeing it. It sounds more like heavy prog with some electronic elements, or maybe even a little bit heavier neo- prog. Either way, I was actually happy with this album.

With a name like Deep in Thought, I was expecting some profound lyrics or deep topics, but this album ended up being purely instrumental. Now, in order for me to like instrumental music, it has to have character and little focus on technicality. This album fits the bill. While this album is definitely technically proficient, it focuses more on great melodies and soundscapes. One great feature is the constant sparring between the bass and the drums, while the ambient lead guitar seems to be doing its own thing. However, it all fits together to create some wonderful tracks. I'd say the last two tracks are the best, though the first track is also great. In fact, this was a three-star album until I heard the final two tracks which are excellent. Also, this album is a grower, so give it some time. And download it: IT'S FREE.
