4 stars Hijacking is debut album of German -based multinational avant-klezmer-noise band Kletka Red.

Band's founder was possibly one of most capable avant-jazz guitarist, born in former USSR - Leonid Soybelman. Being of Jewish origin, he was born in Moldova (Romanian territory, occupied by Russia, part of former USSR at that time), later lived in Soviets occupied Estonia. There he founded his first professional band - Ne Zhdali. In 1991 he immigrated to Israel, but didn't find music scene for his music there. He moved to Switzerland, than - to Berlin, where he founded Kletka Red.

Another members of this trio are ex-Ground Zero drummer Tony Buck and british guitarist, member of Dutch anarcho-punk band The Ex Andy Moor. Released on John Zorn Tzadik label, and produced by Zorn, this album is explosive, dark and noisy mix of avant-punk, hardcore guitars and Eastern European Jewish music.

Album starts with few fast sharp, noisy screaming guitar compositions, similar to Japanese underground avant-punk sound. But very soon music becomes melancholic, with klezmer and Russian vintage urban folk elements. Leonid Soybelman sings on Russian and Yiddish, and in combination with sharp and quite minimalist underground guitar rock attacks it build extremely surrealistic atmosphere.

Even if in many moments this album could be placed between Zorn's radical hardcore avant projects musically, strong dramatic influence of Leonid Soybelman gives very unusual taste to that brew.

Really recommended to avant-punk influenced music lovers and everyone, searching on unusual forms of avant prog.
