2 stars "if you love enough, you'll lie a lot..."

"Jackie's Strength" is one of many outstanding tracks from Tori's amazing 4th album "From the Choirgirl Hotel." Here Tori is bouncing around from various perspectives in life starting with her mother laying her on the lawn as she wept and prayed for Jackie Kennedy upon hearing the news of the assassination. (Tori was about 5 months old when it happened so I'm assuming she's talking about herself.) The track uses that imagery to honor strong women but also moves into the insecurities of adolescence. We get some glimpses into nostalgia with comments about David Cassidy lunchboxes and pot, but also about anorexia and the pressure to be thin. Finally it comes full circle to her own wedding day (or her subject's). It's another lovely vocal backed with piano and graceful strings that give it a bit of a nostalgic, reminiscing feel that is perfect for the subject matter. A great track with two good bonus "b-sides" that were not released on Choirgirl. As with most of these singles they are for collectors and true blue fans primarily. Everyone else should just buy the album, which again, is fantastic!
