SPECIAL COLLABORATOR
4 stars A lyrical, sensational invitation.

A Rome-oriented trio SQUARTET have expressed simple but crazy beautiful funky kinesis for over a decade. Their latest "Adplicatio Minima" released in 2014 has greatly delightful atmosphere in a crispy manner produced by guitar, bass, and drums. Their melodic patterns are quite complicated and tough to digest out but uptempo, fancy-full and flexible. Sounds like they say no difficult movements be necessary nor deep sound construction be needed, but their soundscape should be aggressive and affirmative really. Every single track is a bit short but full of their passion and intention.

The first punch line in "Sotto-play" is impressive. Such a wonderful, acrobatic guitar play would be the outer space we have not touched ever. The detailed viewpoint of their songs cannot easily be grabbed but their 'global' sound image should be pretty acceptable like pop music, despite the fact they play weirdly and eccentrically. Colourful situations can be heard via this creation ... "Effetto Personale" has repetitions of tiny but mysterious phrases and groovy, dreamy, and complex interludes. The bass play tastes delicious really. We can enjoy jazzy, smart and adorable vibes by the three artists of genius in "Nothing Yet". Wondering why they can be perfectly unified without any dissection. They launch crumbling edges of a furniture with funny guitar distortion in "Scomodino (Bad-side Table)". On the contrary "Boho" is filled with guitar-oriented laziness based on monotonous rhythmic turf. "For Important Use" pushes us their fascinating dissonance one after another, but very amazing this excessive track sounds more normal than others for us. The last "Spastic" is very nervous and critical, like spastic angina attack likely to death.

Anyway, their instrumental / musical madness can be absorbed quite naturally into our brain and stomach. We should listen to their 30 minute show without relaxing. What the hell, yeah good.
