3 stars An obscure German Prog group found in 1990 by Tsunami's drummer Vico Lis (aka Victor van Liss) and keyboardist Wolf Khalvan, influenced by the likes of MARILLION, SAGA, RUSH and YES.The first line-up included also singer Paul Zeran and guitarist Jewgeni Wasinger.Delta Cyphei Project debuted with the album ''Supernova'', a private release from 1992.

It was an album based on science fiction, divided into 18 tracks and 11 chapters with the whole concept written in German in the booklet but sung in English.Delta Cyphei Project played an often majestic and highly grandiose amalgam of Neo Prog with Space/Symphonic Rock and Electronic Music and the result ranges from decent to almost ourstanding.A keyboard-driven work full of spacey still flashy synthesizers, ''Supernova'' is also based on symphonic organ passages in the instrumental themes and melodic guitars in a Neo Prog vein as proposed by bands like MARILLION, IQ or ABEL GANZ.Filled with deep atmospheres, massive keyboard exercises and decent arrangements, the album contains also some Electronic passages of an acquired taste in the vein of SHAMALL, that sound mostly nice but there are also some dull and cheap passages to be found. Finally singer Paul Zeran has a high-pitched but balanced voice, excellent fit for the style chosen by the band.

A very good modern Progressive Rock album with a typical 90's sound, which sounds more symphonic than the mass of the Neo Prog acts of the time due to the heavy use of keyboards.Strongly recommended, especially for fans of Neo/Symphonic Progressive Rock...3.5 stars.
