3 stars At the time of recording the album, April Ethereal were a duo of brothers Jan and Jerzy Rajkow- Krzywicki, who originally formed the band as Leon in Tunis in 1996. They moved to Poland in 1999 and in 200 changed the name to April Ethereal and recorded and released 'Advent' before being signed by Conquer Records in London. The album is quite strange in that while it is obviously a death metal album in many respects, it also includes piano and acoustic guitar!

In fact there are passages when no sane person could imagine that the music he was listening to was by a band that could seriously threaten dandruff in the normal sense, let alone one that can be as brutal as these guys. What I particularly like is the way that they can be belting along and then suddenly it is all gentleness and light. Because of the dramatic shift in the music it places even more emphasis on the sheer heaviness of the band.

An interesting album in many respects that is not for the fainthearted. Visit the band's own interesting English version web site at www.aprilethereal.com or go to the label at www.conquerec.com.
