4 stars I did know this album because of my brother's playing it a lot in the early 70s and, of course, from the incessant play of "Light My Fire" on radio and television (though I was much more enamored of guitarist José Feliciano's live version of this as performed on television shows in the late 60s), but I have never been swayed by the band's "genius," mystique or allure. Even numerous "best of" albums, Ray Manzarek's "Carmina Burana" or the Val Kilmer flick did nothing to raise them or their music in my esteem. I do LOVE the song "Light my Fire" though. It may have been the first time that I'd heard a song on the radio that was longer than three or four minutes--one that had protracted instrument solos. That was impressive to me!
