THE CRAFT OF PRIMITIVE KLEZMER

I'd personally put Kruzenshtern and Parohod towards the avant-prog side of the RIO/avant subgenre, since their music doesn't bear much relation to the RIO movement bands or those inspired by them. Instead, their sound is highly reminiscent of the dabbling in traditional Middle Eastern music by Mr Bungle and Secret Chiefs 3, with the same blending in of rock influences with older folk traditions. With some absolutely loopy clarinet playing from Roslan Gross providing the secret ingredient that makes the band's sound so compelling, the group take you on an incredible musical journey which is certainly out of the ordinary. Highly recommended to fans of avant-garde fusions of rock music and traditional music.
