3 stars In their own words, this is the album "that would have been", as the RESIDENTS last tour "Talking Light" was done completely in shows and the album with new material was made after the tour, making it reverse of the usual situation where a band promotes a new album on tour.

This is evident from even 4 revised old songs rather then new material, as I can imagine them being hits on a tour. Well as close to hits THE RESIDENTS have. "My Window" was a sad but beautiful tune from "Animal Lover", here reworked with harsher guitars which made it lose bit of magic for me, "Lizard Lady" is way back from "Duck Stab / Buster & Glen","Boxes Of Armageddon" was from "Bunny Boy" and "Old Woman" is from "The Gingerbread Man".

As someone who didn't see the show I may be undeservedly rating this lower, as I can't grasp the atmosphere of "Talking Light", itself show which was centered around ghost stories, therefore, storytelling, and there is some of that spoken words in lots of songs, making music taking the back seat, like it wasn't ambiental enough.

That all said, "Six More Miles" is a beautiful opener with nice atmosphere, more electronic oriented but with other instruments (guitars in particular) poping up here and there, and vocals are appropriate; it made me think of TANGERINE DREAM for some weird reason. The other highlight would be "Sleepwalker" which reminded me of their "The Ughs" album, sounding very eastern. If you liked the tour then this might be for you, it might be more interesting if you got bored with story albums as this one does contain more regular songs.
